Pinto Beans

Pinto beans are a variety of the "common bean" family along with kidney, navy, great northern, pink, and black beans

Raw and dried pinto beans are lightish pink with mottled specks- the word pinto comes from the Spanish for "painted." These healthful beans were a staple food in U.S. Southerners' diets and are still featured prominently in southwestern and Latin American cuisine. Pinto beans are high in fiber and protein and low in saturated fats, so they're energy-packed. These little beans are considered a super food, as well. They're heart-healthy because of the fiber and folate and carry plenty of vitamins and minerals like manganese, B vitamins, calcium, iron, and Vitamin E. Pinto beans are popular in refried beans, chili, and more.
