Cumin is a powerful spice that is warm and earthy, slightly spicy, and very distinctive. Its closest flavor relatives are anise and caraway. Though cumin is most strongly associated with India and Morocco, it's used across the globe. It's used as a tableside condiment, incorporated into savory dishes, baked into breads, added to pickling liquids, flavor for cheeses and sausages, and even as an ingredient in certain liqours. Cumin is extremely potent, so however you use it, moderation is best. Cumin has been used medicinally since ancient times as a digestive aid and is a good source of fiber.
